Moon at A’DAM Tower: a meal with a changing skyline

Moon’s 19th-floor restaurant turns slowly while you dine, making the changing skyline part of the restaurant visit. It suits a planned meal rather than an assumption that any A’DAM Tower ticket includes dinner. The restaurant uses seasonal menus; tell the team about dietary requirements when booking instead of relying on a photograph of a past dish.

The practical arrival is via Buiksloterweg, followed by the walk to A’DAM Tower on Overhoeksplein. NDSM is a different ferry destination farther along Noord and is not the appropriate landing simply because both places are on the north bank. Allow time for the crossing, the walk and finding the restaurant entrance before your table time.

A’DAM LOOKOUT is a separate observation attraction. If you also want to visit it, inspect the admission and time conditions of that booking independently. A Moon reservation is not an observation-deck or swing ticket, and an observation-deck ticket is not a restaurant reservation.

REM in Houthaven: elevated dining above the water

REM stands on a former offshore platform at Haparandadam. The red-and-white structure is itself part of the setting: this is a destination on the western Houthaven waterfront rather than a restaurant in the old canal belt. Its indoor restaurant offers a chef menu and à-la-carte dishes, while the bar and rooftop create separate kinds of visit.

The rooftop is seasonal: the operator describes its main outdoor programme from late spring to early autumn, with activity moving indoors in colder months. A photograph of the upper deck is not proof that it will be operating on your winter dinner date. Ask about the restaurant and the desired outdoor access separately.

Haparandadam is on the city’s southern side of the IJ. Do not take a ferry to NDSM merely because REM is near the water. Use Haparandadam 45-2 as the destination and check the current route from your accommodation or previous activity. The operator explicitly says REM is not wheelchair accessible, despite a lift reaching most floors.

Café Jakarta and Café de Jaren: waterfront meals without a tower

Café Jakarta looks over the IJ from Hotel Jakarta on Java-eiland. Its Indonesian and fusion menus make it a restaurant choice in its own right, rather than just an alternative observation point. Java-eiland is not Amsterdam Noord: plan the journey to Javakade, not a Buiksloterweg or NDSM crossing.

At Café Jakarta, Table Jakarta is the shared tasting selection, with the separate plant-based Sayur format. The terrace cannot be reserved. Malabar upstairs is a different bar visit; booking a meal downstairs does not reserve upstairs seating. The hotel lists ordinary lunch and dinner service as closed on 31 December 2026 for its New Year’s Eve event, so that date needs a specific plan.

Café de Jaren is useful when your day is already around the old centre and Amstel. It is walk-in only and takes cards rather than cash. Its main kitchen closes at 21:00 even on evenings when the café stays open later. A waterside café stop and a high-level tasting-menu dinner have different budgets and levels of commitment.

Canvas in Oost: restaurant tables and terrace seats are different

Canvas on the seventh floor of Volkshotel combines a restaurant with an elevated city setting. It serves across the day, so it can suit breakfast or lunch as well as dinner. Wibautstraat places it in Oost rather than in the old-centre canal cluster; keep the restaurant’s actual address in your route planning.

The important reservation detail is specific: Canvas’s terrace is walk-in only. An indoor restaurant booking does not hold an outdoor table for your preferred view. Check whether the evening includes music or another programme when you want a quieter conversation, and choose the actual restaurant service rather than assuming a rooftop photograph describes every evening.

For a drinks-led visit rather than a meal, the rooftop guide compares bars and daytime viewpoints with their own access rules. That guide includes places with different weather, age and booking conditions; it should not be treated as a single interchangeable restaurant list.

High-level panoramas or waterside tables: compare the actual view

Use the distinction below to choose the setting. None of these descriptions guarantees a particular table, clear weather or outdoor service. Confirm the seat and service with the venue if the view is the main reason for booking.

A low waterside seat can be more useful for a relaxed daytime meal than a distant skyline. Conversely, Moon’s changing panorama is a deliberate part of a longer restaurant visit. Choose according to the meal, location and seating, rather than assuming that greater height automatically makes the better dining choice.

Restaurant-with-a-view prices: what the menu actually includes

These menu examples were checked on 26 October 2026. They are per-person food amounts for different meal formats, not a ranking of equivalent portions. Drinks, additional bites, pairings and supplements change the total. Request the current menu when reserving, especially for seasonal dishes or a special event.

Moon: four or five courses

The October chef menu lists four courses at €73 and five at €92.50. Extra bites and supplements are separate. The current lunch PDF is à la carte, so do not assume an older business-lunch headline describes every lunch order.

REM: the currently linked chef menu

The restaurant’s linked menu lists four courses at €65 and five at €80, with a vegetarian selection at the same food-menu amounts. Pairings and à-la-carte sides are separate. Check the menu attached to your selected service rather than an older PDF found in search.

Café Jakarta: shared Indonesian formats

Table Jakarta is €42 per person, or €48 with dessert; plant-based Sayur is €39, or €45 with dessert. The tasting format is ordered per table. An individual lunch plate is a different order, not the same spread at a lower headline price.

For Café de Jaren and Canvas, inspect the actual food and drink order you want. A coffee stop, a main course and a long dinner do not share one “view surcharge”. When reserving a specific date, check any event menu and cancellation conditions rather than treating a normal menu as a quotation for New Year’s Eve.

What to know

  • For Moon, travel to Buiksloterweg and Overhoeksplein rather than NDSM.
  • For Café Jakarta, use Javakade on Java-eiland and check special-date service.
  • For REM, ask about indoor dinner and seasonal rooftop access separately.

Keep in mind

  • Do not assume a restaurant booking includes an observation-deck ticket.
  • Do not book Canvas indoors and count the terrace as reserved.
  • Do not interpret a late bar closing time as a guarantee of late kitchen service.

Frequently asked questions about restaurants with a view

Does a Moon booking include A’DAM LOOKOUT?

No. Moon is a separate restaurant in A’DAM Tower. Observation-deck admission and any swing experience require their own relevant booking.

Both venues state that their terraces cannot be reserved in the ordinary way. A restaurant reservation does not guarantee outdoor seating.

No. REM is at Haparandadam in Houthaven on the city’s southern side of the IJ. Use its actual address rather than taking the NDSM ferry by default.

Café de Jaren is a walk-in café by the Amstel, while Canvas serves across the day. Choose the actual menu and service; neither guarantees a particular terrace seat.
