NDSM or Buiksloterweg: choose the right food destination

Noord is a large part of Amsterdam, not one restaurant strip behind Centraal. For the places in this guide, two clusters are especially useful: NDSM wharf, with Pllek, Noorderlicht and Kometen Brood, and Overhoeks around Buiksloterweg, with EYE and A’DAM Tower.

NDSM for a bakery and wharf lunch

Choose this cluster for Kometen Brood, Pllek and Noorderlicht. It fits a day on the former shipyard, including a separately planned STRAAT Museum visit or the public waterfront.

Buiksloterweg for EYE or a tower dinner

Choose this landing for the IJpromenade and Overhoeksplein. EYE provides a waterfront restaurant; Moon is a longer menu-led meal on the 19th floor of A’DAM Tower.

The correct side of the water

REM in Houthaven and Café Jakarta on Java-eiland are south-bank restaurants, despite their IJ views. They do not belong to this Noord dining route.

From Centraal, follow the ferry signs on the IJ side of the station and check the destination display. A meal at NDSM needs the NDSM service; EYE and Moon fit Buiksloterweg. The ferries are part of the journey, but the two landings are not interchangeable.

Kometen Brood at NDSM: breakfast before the wharf gets busy

Kometen Brood & Café opens at 08:00 daily at Ms. van Riemsdijkweg 2. It is the early food choice in this selection: sourdough, croissants and coffee before a longer day on the wharf. Its published closing time is 16:00.

A bakery breakfast and a restaurant brunch are different stops. Choose Kometen when bread, baking and coffee are what you want; choose Pllek when you want its breakfast plates and waterfront room. A later museum appointment can then remain the main fixed point of the day.

Kometen also has a Loket on the Marineterrein, across the IJ on the south side. That counter is at Kattenburgerstraat 5-022, not at NDSM. When checking the opening time or navigating to your breakfast, select the bakery branch on Ms. van Riemsdijkweg.

Pllek: waterfront breakfast, lunch and terrace seating

Pllek at TT Neveritaweg 59 occupies a container-built waterfront setting at NDSM. Its breakfast service is 09:30–12:00 and lunch 11:30–15:30. For a brunch plan, the arrival time determines which menu you will use.

Published breakfast examples checked on 26 October 2026 include avocado toast at €14.50, with a poached egg an optional €2.50 addition, and American pancakes at €14.50. The avocado-toast base is listed as vegan; adding an egg changes that choice. Coffee and other drinks are separate.

For seating, Pllek’s policy is specific: only indoor tables can be reserved. The terrace is walk-in. Sunday lunch is walk-in as well, and lunch reservations are unavailable on both Saturday and Sunday during IJ-Hallen weekends. Choose the day and seating arrangement before relying on a booking.

The operator lists its kitchen until 22:00 daily and accepts debit or credit card rather than cash. Groups of more than eight use its group-booking arrangements. A table preference is not a guarantee of a particular waterfront position.

Noorderlicht: a cultural café and seasonal food at NDSM

Noorderlicht on NDSM-Plein adds music, cultural programming and seasonal food to a wharf visit. Check the selected day’s event programme if the atmosphere is an important part of your meal.

The current kitchen schedule separates lunch 12:00–16:00 and dinner 17:30–21:00, Wednesday–Sunday. The café’s later closing does not extend those food windows. Its posted menu includes plant-led dishes such as carrot croquettes and beetroot hummus. Ask about the current full meal and dietary needs when reserving.

For a Monday or Tuesday visit to NDSM, choose Kometen or Pllek instead of expecting Noorderlicht to be open.

EYE and Moon: two ways to eat near Buiksloterweg

Around Overhoeks, choose between a restaurant at waterfront level and a tower dining room. This is a useful food cluster before or after an EYE visit, or when A’DAM Tower is the purpose of the evening.

EYE serves lunch Tuesday–Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00 and dinner 17:30–21:00. Its current Monday opening is from 18:00 for drinks only. Reserve the restaurant separately from a film or exhibition; a screening ticket does not by itself reserve a meal.

Moon provides a seasonal restaurant menu in a rotating room on the 19th floor. Its lunch service is Thursday–Sunday, 12:00–14:00, with dinner arrivals daily from 17:30 to 20:30. A published October 2026 menu lists four courses at €73 and five at €92.50. Allow time for the menu rather than treating it as a quick café break.

A reservation at Moon and admission to A’DAM LOOKOUT are separate arrangements. Choose a LOOKOUT ticket only if you also want the observation-deck visit. The restaurant view does not mean every attraction in the tower is included in the meal.

A Noord food day: breakfast, a wharf visit and the return ferry

For NDSM, keep the food stops around the activities you have selected. A bakery breakfast, a wharf walk and one lunch are a workable sequence; adding another crossing solely for a second café changes the day considerably. These three steps are for a NDSM day, not an instruction to visit every restaurant above.

1

Breakfast at the wharf

Start at Kometen Brood on Ms. van Riemsdijkweg, open from 08:00, for bread, baking and coffee.

2

Visit, then lunch

Keep the wharf or a booked STRAAT visit central to the day; choose Pllek or Noorderlicht for the meal that fits.

3

Return from NDSM

Use the NDSM landing for the journey back. Check the current departure information, particularly after an evening meal or event.

For a day around EYE and A’DAM Tower, use Buiksloterweg instead and keep the restaurant in that cluster. Check live ferry departures for the actual evening. Food service, a film finish and the last convenient connection are separate parts of the plan; the transport guide explains the routes in more detail.
